Parent educators in different regions of Texas in 2002 formed local networks that became the Texas Association of Parent Educators (TAPE).The Texas Association of Parent Educators is a professional association hosted by the University of North Texas Center for Parent Education. The local networks consist of professional parent educators from many different fields (e.g. education, medical, counseling, therapy, child care, law enforcement) that network, support, and collaborate with the Center for Parent Education and each other. In 2005 TAPE became a dues paying organization.
To build a network of professionals and paraprofessionals involved in the fields of parent education, parent involvement, and family support in order to:
TAPE meets each year in Spring during the annual Conference on Parent Education for the statewide annual meeting. TAPE is also a key sponsor of the conference and presents the Best Practices Award, and the Arminta Jacobson Professional of the Year Award to organizations who exhibit best practices in Parent/Family Education, Parent/Family Involvement in Schools or Parent/Family Support.
