Volunteer Experience from the View of Yamuna Teter

Yamuna TeterYamuna Teter, UNT Senior
Media and Promotional Coordinator, Center for Parent Education

Greetings!  My name is Yamuna Teter and I am a senior at UNT.  I am a proud mama to four young children and very passionate about Parent Education.  Being a parent has brought surprising challenges and tremendous joy to my life.  I was inspired by PAT (Parents as Teachers), a nationwide organization, that promotes positive parenting through education, home visits, and referrals.  I was a part of the program and know that Parent Education made a definite impact on my life and the lives of my children.

After being a stay at home mom for 8 years I returned to school last fall to pursue my undergraduate degree in Development and Family Studies with a Family and Community focus.  Throughout the year I had many “ah ha” moments with Dr. Huey, Dr. Jacobson, Dr. Hildreth, and Julie Leventhal.  The guidance and mentorship from my professors led me to strive for more knowledge about what efforts are being made to promote Parent Education.  I contacted Dr. Jacobson about volunteer possibilities with the center and she accepted.  I am so grateful to have the opportunity!  Throughout the summer I hope to provide an inside look on what it is like to be a volunteer at the Center for Parent Education.  I know the journey will be an exciting one and hope you will join me.   Click on the link below and enjoy the ride!
