Texas Parents as Teachers
July 13, 2010 - 12pm to 1pm

Parents as Teachers (PAT), a program of Mental Health America of Texas, is an early childhood parent education and family support program designed to help all parents give their children the best possible start in life. This support system provides both information about child development, from infancy to 5 years-old, and suggested learning opportunities to encourage children's growth.  These prevention tools are given to parents through a voluntary program, implemented through personal visits, group meetings, screenings, and resource network.

The national award winning Parents as Teachers program takes place on the local level throughout communities. Elaine Shiver, director, was awarded Best Practice winner on behalf of Texas Parents as Teachers by TAPE in 2009. Ms. Shiver is also a National Trainer for Parents as Teachers.

Ms. Shiver will provide an informative session on the Texas Parents as Teachers program for professionals to build upon their resource base of curriculum and tools for working with parents.
